Why FTX is worth a look

Most cheap RC cars are designed in China and sold everywhere under the same name. FTX is a UK-based brand whose range is put together with British buyers in mind, and its long-running models, the Vantage buggy and Carnage truck among them, have been around for over a decade. That longevity matters: it means the parts are still made.

The trade-off is price. An FTX costs a little more than an equivalent WLtoys or Haiboxing, and you are paying for support rather than extra speed.

Which FTX should you buy?

Tracer is the cheap one, and a good one. It is 1/16 4WD, small enough for a child to manage, and the brushed version is forgiving. If the buyer is older or already has a car, the brushless Tracer adds a lot of pace for £45 more. Our RC cars for kids guide has more ideas at this level.

Vantage 2.0 and Bugsta are the step up to 1/10. Bigger wheels and longer suspension mean they cope with real grass. Start brushed, and move to the brushless Vantage or Carnage when you want speed; brushed vs brushless explains when that is worth it.

Crawlers are FTX's strongest area. The Outback Mini is the low-cost route, the Utah 2.0 adds a two-speed gearbox and brushless motor, and the 1/10 Kanyon, Trooper and Ruffneck are full-size trail rigs. For on-road fun, the Banzai drift cars and Havok 1/14 are good value.

Parts and running costs

We list over 2,500 FTX parts, covering most current models and many older ones. Some FTX cars include a LiPo and charger and some do not, so check the listing; our batteries and chargers guide helps if you need to add one. Orders over £129.99 get free UK delivery.
