Where 1/18 fits

1/18 sits between the desk-top 1/24 scale and the garden-ready 1/16. It's the size many people choose for crawling at home: a garden rockery, a pile of logs or a course built in the spare room. A 1/18 crawler is also big enough to carry proper detail, like scale lights, roof racks and licensed bodies.

Things to know

1/18 batteries are small, so run times on brushless models can be shorter than you expect; a spare pack is a good idea. Wheels and tyres are less standardised than at 1/10, so check parts for your specific model. Hobby Plus and Absima share the CR18P platform, which helps. See the scales guide for sizes.

Brushed or brushless matters less here than at bigger scales. A crawler is about slow control, and a good brushless system mainly adds smoother low-speed throttle and longer motor life. For a fast 1/18 truck, brushed is plenty in a garden.
